Information Bar for Local Content Appears

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Information Bar appears when browser displays active content locally.

Solution


Temporary WorkAround

Steps to be performed on Windows XP SP2 PC:

  1. Open WebHelp/FlashHelp.
  2. Click on the Information Bar.
  3. Select 'Allow blocked content...'

This instance of WebHelp/FlashHelp will display and work correctly.

If it is closed and reopened, the 'Allow blocked content...' will have to be selected again.

Permanent WorkAround

Microsoft warns against disabling this feature.

Steps to be performed on Windows XP SP2 PC:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Tools > Internet Options...
  3. Select the 'Advanced' tab.
  4. Check the box next to 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'.

If it is a CD, check the 'Allow active content from CD to run on My Computer' option.

FlashHelp Workaround

Enter a comment like the one below in the source code for each topic and Info. Bar does not appear. Place the following code before the <head> tag.

In the above comment the number 26 represents the number of characters in the URL http://www.macromedia.com/
