Dreamweaver compatibility with Macintosh OS X v10.4 (Tiger)
Macromedia and Apple have worked together to ensure compatibility between Dreamweaver and Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger." There are no known significant issues regarding compatibility for Dreamweaver. There are some minor issues though:
- Dreamweaver requires re-activation after upgrading
- Dreamweaver is not supported on Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive) and UNIX file systems
- Clicking on context sensitive Help button does not open up corresponding Help page
- Pressing Command+W causes a JavaScript error for localized versions of Dreamweaver
- Link in lower right corner of Start Page does not appear on localized versions of Dreamweaver
- Dreamweaver does not set a default browser for the Preview in Browser preference when performing a clean install of Mac OS X 10.4
- Some function keys are not available to Dreamweaver
- The Administrator password dialog box has a generic application icon when running the Dreamweaver installer
- Unconfirmed issues
- Additional information
The following issues have been resolved with the Mac OS X Update 10.4.1.
- Cannot launch "Optimize in Fireworks" if Fireworks is already open
- Cannot access Dreamweaver Help after performing Archive and Install of Mac OS X 10.4
- Cannot select a code hint choice using the Return key or Up and Down arrow keys
- When clicking on the results of XML validation, an error occurs stating that the document was not found
Dreamweaver requires re-activation after upgrading
topic update: May 17, 2005
Issue
Users who upgrade using either the "Archive and Install" or the "Erase and Install" features will be forced to re-activate their Macromedia applications. After the upgrade, users are prompted to Activate their software.
Solution
This issue and the solution are described in Upgrading to Macintosh OS X version 10.3.9 or to Tiger (version 10.4) (ServiceNote d27f67d4).
Dreamweaver is not supported on Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive) and UNIX file systems
topic update: May 17, 2005
Issue
Dreamweaver is not supported on Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive) file systems. Dreamweaver is also not supported on Mac OS X UNIX File Systems (UFS), as noted in Dreamweaver MX 2004 emerging issues (TechNote tn_18895). One symptom of this problem may be missing icons in the Insert bar.
Solution
Use the standard Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system.
Clicking on context sensitive Help button does not open corresponding Help page
topic update: April 29, 2005
Issue
Clicking the Help button in a Dreamweaver dialog box does not open the expected specific topic in the Dreamweaver Help files. Instead, the general Help file opens.
Workaround
Do a search in the Help system for the topic you are looking for or use the Table of Contents. (Ref. 188607)
Pressing Command+W causes a JavaScript error in localized versions of Dreamweaver
topic update: May 17, 2005
Issue
For users of non-English versions of Dreamweaver, pressing Command+ W causes the following JavaScript error: "While executing DWMenu_Mac_File_Close command in menus.xml occurs a Javascript error - closeDocument: Argument 1 is not valid"
Workaround
Use other methods to close files in Dreamweaver: click the red "X" button in the upper left corner, or select File > Close. The keyboard shortcut for File > Close cannot be changed in Dreamweaver. (Ref. 189341)
Link in lower right corner of Start Page does not appear on localized versions of Dreamweaver
topic update: April 29, 2005
Issue
For users of non-English versions of Dreamweaver, the hyperlink in the lower right corner of the Dreamweaver Start Page does not appear. This does not affect Dreamweaver functionality. (Ref. 189394)
Dreamweaver does not set a default browser for the Preview in Browser preference when performing a clean install of Mac OS X 10.4
topic update: April 29, 2005
Issue
When performing a clean install of Mac OS X 10.4 (not an upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4), the default browser for Preview in Browser is not set to anything. Users may expect Safari to be set as the default browser, but Dreamweaver only looks for Internet Explorer and Netscape. Mac OS X 10.4 does not include Internet Explorer by default. Some Dreamweaver extensions, like the Web Photo Album 2.2, launch Preview in Browser automatically, which may cause a JavaScript error in Dreamweaver, since Preview in Browser is not setup with a default browser.
Workaround
Set browser preferences by choosing Dreamweaver > Preferences, choose the Preview in Browser category. Click the plus button and select your browser. (Ref. 189422)
Some function keys are not available to Dreamweaver
topic update: May 17, 2005
Issue
Some of the function keys in the Dreamweaver default keyboard shortcuts are reserved for Mac OS X 10.4 system functions. Attempting to perform a function within Dreamweaver using those function keys will instead perform a Mac system function:
- The function key F12 is reserved on the Macintosh for the Dashboard utility.
- The function keys F9, F10, and F11 are reserved on the Macintosh for the Expose utility.
- Command+F5 turns on the Mac "Voice Over" feature.
- PowerBooks and iBooks use additional function keys for screen brightness (F1 & F2), sound (F3, F4 & F5) and keyboard light (F8).
Solution
- Change the Dreamweaver keyboard shortcuts. In the Dreamweaver menu, select Dreamweaver > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Note: To change the shortcut for Preview in Browser, when the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box opens, choose Document editing from the Commands menu, then scroll down to Preview in Primary Browser to define an alternate shortcut. - Use the menu commands instead of the keyboard shortcuts. For example, select your browser by choosing File > Preview in Browser > the preferred browser.
- Change the shortcut key for Dashboard and Expose in the Macintosh System Preferences: Apple menu > System Preferences> Dashboard & Expose. (Ref. 147481, 189415)
The Administrator password dialog box has a generic application icon when running the Dreamweaver installer
topic update: April 29, 2005
Issue
When installing Dreamweaver, users are prompted to enter their Macintosh administrator password. A Dreamweaver icon should appear in the dialog box, but instead a generic icon appears. This is a cosmetic issue that does not affect Dreamweaver functionality. (Ref. 189429)
Unconfirmed issues
topic update: May 17, 2005
Some users have reported the following issues:
- FTP stops working after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4. One user reports that the upgrade to 10.4 resets all firewall settings. Reconfiguring the firewall settings solved the problem. Other users have reported that they need to check the Use Passive FTP checkbox in the Dreamweaver Site Definition dialog box.
- One user reports that running Extensis Font Reserve 3.1.3 causes Dreamweaver MX 2004 to run slowly. Disabling Font Reserve resulted in Dreamweaver returning back to normal performance.
- Some users report that Dreamweaver MX 2004 was slow upon installation of Mac OS X 10.4, but after trashing the Dreamweaver preferences file, the performance problems were resolved.

The following issues have been resolved with the Mac OS X Update 10.4.1.
Cannot launch "Optimize in Fireworks" if Fireworks is already open
topic update: June 6, 2005
Issue
When clicking the "Optimize in Fireworks" button in the Property Inspector, the following warning message may appear: "Only one Fireworks optimization session at a time is allowed. Please close your current session before starting a new one." (Ref. 189353)
Cannot access Dreamweaver Help after performing "Archive and Install" of Mac OS X 10.4
topic update: June 6, 2005
Issue
For users that perform an "Archive and Install" installation of Mac OS X 10.4, selecting Help > Using Dreamweaver does not bring up the Dreamweaver Help files. (Ref. 189435)
Cannot select a code hint choice using the Return key or Up and Down arrow keys
topic update: June 6, 2005
Issue
This issue affects Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1 users when working in Code view. When you begin to type a tag in Code View, a pop-up menu appears displaying code hints. If you click one of the code hint options (one click, not a double-click), you then cannot select a final choice using the Return key or navigate to other code hint options using the Up and Down arrow keys. (Ref. 189319)
When clicking on the results of XML validation, an error occurs stating that the document was not found
topic update: June 6, 2005
Issue
This issue concerns Dreamweaver's XML validator (File > Check Page > Validate as XML). If the XML validator returns some validation errors in the results panel, double-clicking the results shows an error similar to the following (instead of opening the problem file):
"Macintosh HD\:users:<username>:Sites:mySite:myFile.htm was not found" (Ref. 188595)
