Security error with Flash Player 8 when running Flash Communication Server Admin Console and Application Inspector

Issue

Macromedia Flash Player 8 introduced an updated security model and changed default local file access policy. Due to this change, when you run a Flash application from the local file system, you will get a security alert box. This article describes how to configure the Flash Player security settings to avoid this issue.

Solution

With Flash Player 8, when you run a Flash application from the local file system, for example the Flash Communication Server Admin Console and Application Inspector, you may encounter the following security alert:

Please see the Flash Player Security Manager documentation for more detail about the cause of this alert.

In order to get past the security alert, you need to modify your local file access security policy in the Flash Player. When you receive the alert box, click the 'Settings...' button or open theFlash Player Settings Manager with your browser. You can add, delete or edit your local access policy in the Global Security Settings. Add the location of your Flash application or simply check the 'Always allow' button. It is recommended to add file location entries as needed rather than allowing all.

The following is an example of how to add the location of the Flash Communication Server Admin Console and Application Inspector.
