Title

Interactive PDF forms flattened using LiveCycle Output service lose images referenced using relative paths | LiveCycle ES2 (9.0)Products affected

Lost images in flattened interactive PDF forms

Issue

When LiveCycle ES2 renders an XDP form with relative references to images as an interactive PDF form, some images are missing. After rendering the form, LiveCycle ES2 passes it to the Output service for flattening, or the Assembler service for converting it to a PDF/A document.

Solution

Make sure that the XDP form does not contain relative references to images.

Alternatively, use one of the following workarounds:

  • Embed images in the form.
  • Specify the absolute path to the image resource in the application repository.

Additional information

The request for flattening or converting a PDF form to a PDF/A document via Assembler service goes to the Output service. The Output service rerenders the XDP document, and requires Content Root URI to resolve images linked using relative paths. However, in this case, the Output service receives blank Content Root URI. Therefore, the referenced images are not resolved.

This issue occurs when you use the Assembler or Output service to flatten interactive PDF forms created using LiveCycle Designer ES2 or LiveCycle Forms ES2 and later.

Adobe is investigating the issue and plans to post an update once it is resolved.
