Unable to paste an EMF object into Office applications from Illustrator (Windows)Products affected

Issue

When you copy and paste from Adobe Illustrator CS5 to Microsoft Office using the EMF (Enhanced Metafile) option, nothing happens.

Solutions

Solution 1: Download and replace the AIDelayLoadedPlugins.cfg file.

  1. Close Illustrator CS5.
  2. Click following link to download the AIDelayLoadedPlugins.cfg file. Save it to a location you can find easily, such as your Desktop.
  3. Navigate to the contents folder of the Illustrator installation:
    • Windows 32-bit: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Support Files\Contents\Windows
    • Windows 64-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Support Files\Contents\Windows
  4. Replace the existing AIDelayLoadedPlugins.cfg file with the new one downloaded.
  5. Navigate to the preference file location for your user account on the system for Illustrator:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe
    • Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  6. Rename or delete the Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings folder.
  7. Restart Illustrator.

Solution 2: Export the selection in Illustrator to the EMF file type and use the resulting file in the Office applications.

  1. Select the object in Illustrator that you want to export.
  2. Choose File > Export.
  3. Change the Save As type to Enhanced Metafile (*.EMF).
  4. Choose a file destination in the Export dialog box and click Save.

Additional information

Adobe is aware of the issue and recommends checking for updates to the Illustrator software, as they become available. To check for updates, choose Help > Updates.
