Adobe Help application doesn't updateProducts affected
CHC update failure
Issue
When you try to update the Adobe Help application (also called the Community Help application), the following installation error occurs:
"The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged."

Solution
Reinstall the Adobe Help application.
- Make sure that you have the latest version of the AIR runtime. If you are not sure, download the latest version.
- Uninstall the previous version of Adobe Help:
Windows: Use the Add Or Remove Programs utility.
Mac OS: Drag the application from the Applications/Adobe folder to the Trash.
- Delete the following directory:
Windows: %appdata%/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
Tip: To find this directory in Windows, copy the preceding phrase into the Windows Explorer file manager.
Mac OS: /[username]/Library/Preferences/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
- Empty the Trash (Mac OS) or Recycling Bin (Windows).
- Manually update the application at http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/.
Additional information
This installation error occurs under two conditions:
- If you have an older prerelease or beta version of a Creative Suite 5 application installed.
- If you simultaneously update the AIR runtime at the same time as updating the Adobe Help application.
The Adobe Help application is built and managed using the Adobe AIR framework. Because Adobe AIR has its own installation and uninstallation procedures, Adobe Help application updates are independent of the CS5 installer. There is no need to uninstall the entire Creative Suite or any associated product to resolve this issue.
