Adobe recommends that only users with administrator privileges install ColdFusion Builder, ColdFusion Builder updates, and third-party plug-ins. The following issues occur when a user without administrator privileges installs ColdFusion Builder:

• When non-admin users install third-party plug-ins on a standalone installation of ColdFusion Builder, an error message appears indicating that only admin users can install third-party plug-ins. In some cases, ColdFusion Builder allows the installation of the plug-ins and the following issues occurs:
  • On Mac OS, when you close and open ColdFusion Builder, the Help > Install New Software menu randomly changes to Help > Software Updates. Although users trying to install any plug-ins using the Software Updates menu can install the plug-in, the plug-ins sometimes don't function properly. For example, any plug-in related perspectives don't  appear correctly.
  •  On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, if ColdFusion Builder is installed in a non-default location, ColdFusion Builder doesn't block a non-admin user from installing third-party plug-ins. (A non-default location is a folder outside the Program Files folder.) The non-admin user can install the third-party plug-ins, but they don't function properly. For example, any plug-in related perspectives don't appear correctly.
• If ColdFusion Builder is installed as a plug-in to Eclipse, it does not check the user’s permissions when installing plug-ins.
• If a non-admin user tries to enter the product serial number for ColdFusion Builder, in some cases, the serial number is not accepted.
• If a non-admin user tries to uninstall ColdFusion Builder, the installation is sometimes incomplete.
• On Mac 10.5.x and 10.6.x, a non-admin user can't launch ColdFusion Builder that is installed as a plug-in to Eclipse 3.4.2. To resolve this issue, provide the non-admin user with read and write permissions to the Eclipse directory. 
• On Windows Vista, when you install third-party plug-ins to ColdFusion Builder,  an error appears saying insufficient permissions. To resolve this issue, start ColdFusion Builder using the “Run as Administrator” option.
• When a non-admin user uses ColdFusion Builder, the Recent Files list in the ColdFusion Builder Start-up page, isn't always updated. 
• When a non-admin user uses ColdFusion Builder, the Start/Stop options are enabled for Server Manager rather than disabled. To resolve this issue, run ColdFusion Builder as an admin user. However,  for Windows 7 and Vista, although the admin user has administrator privileges, the admin user must start ColdFusion Builder using the “Run as Administrator” option.
• When a non-admin user clicks Help> Adobe ColdFusion Builder Updates, ColdFusion Builder identifies updates although ColdFusion Builder is up-to-date with all the updates. However, ColdFusion Builder downloads the latest updates but fails to install them.

Note: For a standalone installation of ColdFusion Builder in the default installation location, the Help > Adobe ColdFusion Builder Updates menu option is not enabled.
