Error when installing Dreamweaver 8: The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine. If available, please run ISScript.msi
Issue
Some Windows users have reported that when trying to install Macromedia Dreamweaver 8, the following error message appears:
1: The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine. If available, please run ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance.
Reason
Although the Windows version of Dreamweaver 8 now uses an MSI installer for the majority of the installation process, the Dreamweaver installer still relies on the InstallShield Engine for certain functionality.
This message indicates there is a problem with the InstallShield Engine. (Ref. 201930)
Solution
The following InstallShield document describes the workaround:Update to the Latest InstallShield Installation Engines (Q108322). For Dreamweaver 8, see the section titled "If the file version number starts with 10". Here is the relevant information for Dreamweaver 8:
- Delete the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\10from the machine. - Download ISScript10.zip.
- Unzip this file.
- Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the IsScript engine for this version of the installation.
