Can't connect to FTP servers after installing Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater

Issue

Some Windows users have reported that after installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater, they are unable to connect to any FTP sites in Macromedia Dreamweaver. (Ref. 204253)

Reason

The Dreamweaver product team is investigating this issue, but this problem seems to be related to certain personal firewall applications. Personal firewall programs consider Dreamweaver 8.0.1 to be a different program than Dreamweaver 8.0. The personal firewall program should detect Dreamweaver 8.0.1 the first time Dreamweaver tries to connect to an FTP server, and the firewall should give you a choice of whether to allow or block Dreamweaver to or from the internet. Some personal firewall programs are not prompting users that Dreamweaver 8.0.1 is trying to connect to the internet, and are automatically blocking Dreamweaver 8.0.1. As a result, FTP functionality breaks.

Solution

Disable the personal firewall, then try to connect via FTP in Dreamweaver to see if the firewall is related to the problem. If it is, here are a few things to try:

  • Open the personal firewall software and configure it to allow Dreamweaver 8.0.1 to access the internet.
  • Some Norton Internet Security 2005 users have reported that rolling back a recent update to the Norton Firewall solved the problem.
  • Some Norton Internet Security 2005 users have reported that upgrading to Norton Internet Security 2006 solved the problem.
  • If the suggestions above don't work, uninstall Dreamweaver and reinstall Dreamweaver 8.0, but don't install the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater.

If you are experiencing FTP problems after installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.1 Updater, please submit a bug report using our Feature Request/Bug Report Form. Or, if you have purchased Dreamweaver, you can also contact Macromedia Technical Support, and see if a support agent can reproduce your problem.
