QuickTime 7 Support in Macromedia Director and the Shockwave Player

Issue

The QuickTime Asset Xtra found in both Macromedia Director and the Shockwave Player fails to properly detect the presence of the public beta release of Apple's QuickTime 7 for Windows, causing error messages that the Xtra is missing or failed to initialize properly.

Reason

The beta version of QuickTime 7 for Windows contains a bug that prevents the QuickTime Asset Xtra from being able to properly initialize the player for use in Macromedia Director, its projectors or the Shockwave Player. (Ref. 197188)

Solution

Install the final public release of Apple's QuickTime 7 for Windows (version 7.0.2 or higher) as it does not contain the bug and therefore will initialize properly via the QuickTime Asset Xtra.
