Error when updating Flash Player 8 using auto-update

Issue


Some Macromedia Flash Player 8 users are not be able to successfully update using the auto-update mechanism. When prompted to perform a Flash Player 8 update, the update downloads the required files and then produces this error:

The error says "An error has occurred while downloading the installer. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again."

Reason


This is a known issue on machines running the beta version of Macromedia Flash Player 8.

Solution


If you have a public beta version of Flash Player 8 installed, please update to the release version of the Player by visiting thePlayer Download Center. This will resolve the issue with the auto-update mechanism.
