Animated static text flickers if using Bitmap text anti-aliasing option

Issue

Animated static text in Macromedia Flash 8 that uses Bitmap text anti-aliasing appears to flicker.

These steps will illustrate this issue:

  1. Create a static text field.
  2. Select "Bitmap text (no anti-alias)" in the Property Inspector.
  3. Select Frame 15.
  4. Select Insert > Timeline > Keyframe.
  5. Test movie.

Text appears to shift or flicker when moving to the new Keyframe in the frame 15.

Reason

This flickering is caused by a problem in the transformation matrix used by Flash Player to draw the text.

Solution

In the Property Inspector, round the X and Y values of the static text field to whole numbers. For example, if the value of X is 128.5, change X to 128.
