MSI error when uninstalling or reinstalling Macromedia Studio 8 products
Issue
When trying to uninstall or install Macromedia Studio 8 products (Dreamweaver 8, Fireworks 8, Flash 8 and Contribute 3), you may receive the following error message:
"Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
Reason
The behavior may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
- The Windows Installer files that are on your hard disk are damaged or are missing.
- You install or remove a program that uses the Windows installer Microsoft Software Installation (MSI).

Solution
Installation Process
If you encounter this error when trying to install any of Studio 8 products, try either or both of the following:
- Restart your computer and try the Installation process again
- Run the bootstrap file (XX_Client_Installer.exe); where XX is the product abbreviation. For example, "DW_Client_Installer.exe for Dreamweaver 8".
Uninstallation Process
When trying to uninstall any of the Studio 8 products, if you encounter this error do the following:
- Locate WindowsInstaller-KB884106-v2-x86.exe in your installation CD.
- Double click to run WindowsInstaller-KB884106-v2-x86.exe.
- Uninstall the product.
Additional Information
- If the MSI installed on the machine is older than Version 3: The bootstrap files, XX_Client_Installer.exe, will run the WindowsInstaller-KB884016-v2-x86.exe to upgrade the MSI.
