 PREPARING FOR A SILENT INSTALLATION

Some of these procedures require you to locate hidden files and hidden folders or to locate files by their full filenames, including extensions (for example, sample_filename.ini). By default, Windows Explorer does not show hidden files, hidden folders, and filename extensions that it recognizes.

See the following documents for details:

  • "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all filename extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows XP)" (TechNote kb404856).
  • "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all filename extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows Vista)" (TechNote kb404880).

  2. Create an "application.xml.override" file:

    6. Type "application.xml.override" in the Filename box.
    7. Save the file in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Task 1.
  3. [Optional] Open the Abcpy.ini file from the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Task 1 in Notepad. The INSTALLTEMPLATES option is used to install the additional Movie themes, DVD, and Title templates with the Premiere Elements installer. When its value is 1 (INSTALLTEMPLATES=1), these elements are added.
    1. Copy the Adobe Premiere Elements Templates folder from the Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Content installation DVD into the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Step 1.
    2. Rename the Adobe Premiere Elements Templates folder 'Templates'.

Enter a value of 0 (INSTALLTEMPLATES=0) to prevent the additional Movie themes, DVD, and Title templates from being installed with the Adobe Premiere Elements installer.
Note: If the 'Templates' folder is not present in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Step 1, you must enter a value of 0.

DISABLEEMSFEATURES=0

<Path to OEM.exe> /UL#### /V"SERIALNUMBER=<AOO-volume-license-serial-number>"Replace <Path to OEM.exe> with the location of the OEM.exe in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied from installation DVD in Step 1.

Note: On Windows 7/Vista, a User Access Control (UAC) prompt sometimes appears when the installer starts, if UAC is enabled. To prevent the User Access Control prompt, disable UAC.

 VERIFYING A SILENT INSTALLATION

To verify the installation during the installation process:

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab. Observe that the OEM.exe is still listed (even if CPU usage is at 0) and that msiexec processes are running.
  3. The installation has finished once the OEM.exe process disappears from the list.

To verify the installation after the installation process finishes:

Verify that the following folders were added:

  • C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0
  • C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements Organizer 8.0
