Additional Information

This document provides instructions to silently install Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 on Mac OS X with an Adobe Open Options (AOO) volume license.

 SILENT INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Copy the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 folder from the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 installation DVD to your hard drive.
  2. Open the deploy folder in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 folder copied from the installation DVD in Step 1.
  3. Copy the AdobePhotoshopElements8xx_XX.install.xml file for the language to be installed to a local drive and close the deploy folder.
  4. Open the AdobePhotoshopElements8xx_XX.install.xml file copied in Step 3 in TextEdit.
    1.  Locate the following line:
      <Property name="serialNumber">EnterSerialNumberHere</Property> 
    2. Replace the string "EnterSerialNumberHere" with your 24-digit AOO volume license serial number (without the dashes).
    3. Save and Quit TextEdit.
  5. Create an application.xml.override file:
    1. Open Notepad.
    2. Paste the following code into it:
      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
      <Configuration>
      <Payload>
      <Data key="EULADelay">0</Data>
      <Data key="Registration">Suppress</Data>
      <Data key="Updates">Suppress</Data>
      </Payload></Configuration>
    3. Choose File > Save.
    4. From the Save As Type menu, choose All Files.
    5. From the Encoding menu, choose UTF-8.
    6. Type "application.xml.override" in the Filename box.
    7. Save the file in the Adobe Premiere Elements folder copied in Step 1.
  6.  To start the installation, open the Terminal utility and enter the following line with the appropriate modifications:
    sudo "<Setup.app path>/Contents/MacOS/Setup" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="<AdobePhotoshopElements8xx_XX.install.xml path>"

    Replace <Setup.app path> with the full path of the Setup.app in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 folder copied from the installation DVD in Step 1.

    Replace <AdobePhotoshopElements8xx_XX.install.xml path> with the full path of the edited AdobePhotoshopElements8xx_XX.install.xml file copied in Step 3.
  7. Press Return key. Enter the Administrator password.


 VERIFYING A SILENT INSTALLATION

The installation has finished once "End Adobe Setup" and an "Exit code" are displayed in the Terminal.

  • The following list describes the exit codes:
    Exit Code Description
    0 No errors encountered
    1 Unable to parse command line
    2 Unknown user interface mode specified
    6 Silent workflow completed with errors
    7 Unable to complete the silent workflow
    8 Exit with restart needed
    9 Unsupported operating system
    10 Unsupported file system
    11 Another instance of setup is running
    12 CAPS integrity error
    13 Media optimization failed
    14 Insufficient credentials


To verify the installation after the installation process finishes:

  • Verify that the following folder was added:
    Applications > Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 folder

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

  •  The EULADelay Data key is required for every silent installation.
  • The Registration Data key is optional. If you use it, the registration dialog does not appear when Premiere Elements is started and the Help > Registration option is unavailable (dimmed).
  • The Updates Data key is optional. If you use it, Premiere Elements does not check for updates and the Help > Updates option does not appear.
