Can the EMBED Tag Be Used in a Table Cell?

Question
Can the EMBED Tag for a Flash Player movie or other images be used in an HTML table cell?

Answer
Yes, both Netscape Navigator 4.x and Opera 5.x should work fine with the EMBED tag in tables. Therefore, Flash Player movies and images will work in table cells when viewing with Netscape Navigator 4.x and Opera 5.x. An older version of Netscape Navigator, 2.0, did not handle the layout of plug-ins in table cells properly.

Modern versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape 6 recognize the OBJECT tag instead of the EMBED tag.

Note: When including movies in table cells you should avoid using percent values for the WIDTH and HEIGHT parameter. You should use specific pixel values for both the movie's dimensions and the table cell's dimensions. Don't forget to account for the pixels in the table's border, as well.

Additional information
If you would like Flash Player movies or images to appear in table cells on your Web site, it is recommended to include a warning on your page that the site is designed for viewing with Netscape Navigator 4.x and Opera 5.x.
