Using the Adobe E-mail Service in Photoshop Elements 6 and 7 (Windows)

What's Covered

This TechNote describes how to configure the Adobe E-mail Service for Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and 7 on Windows. This TechNote also lists the limitations of the Adobe E-mail Service, and can help you troubleshoot problems sending and receiving e-mails with the Adobe E-mail Service.

Photoshop Elements 6 and 7 have a feature to share your photos by e-mail directly through the Photoshop Elements Organizer. If you have an e-mail account configured in Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail, you can share your photos using these accounts. You can also share your photos through the Organizer using the Adobe E-mail Service.

Select Adobe E-mail Service in the preferences
To select the Adobe E-mail Service:
  1. Open the Photoshop Elements Organizer.
  2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Sharing.
  3. Select Adobe E-mail Service from the E-mail Client menu.
  4. Enter your name and a valid e-mail address.
  5. Click OK to close the Preferences dialog.
Verify your e-mail address

The first time that you send an e-mail through Adobe E-mail Service, you will be required to verify your e-mail address. The Adobe E-mail Service will send a verification code to your e-mail address and you need to enter this code into the Sender Verification screen in order to begin using this service.

To verify your e-mail address:

  1. In the Photoshop Elements Organizer, select one or more photos.
  2. Click the Share tab from the Task Pane on the right of the Organizer, and then choose Photo Mail.
  3. Click Next.
  4. In the Share tab, select recipients, and then click Next.
  5. In the Stationery & Layouts Wizard, do the following:
    • Select a stationery and then click Next Step.
    • Select a layout and then click Next. The Photo Mail window will appear with a message that a verification e-mail has been sent.
  6. Check your e-mail account for the verification code. You should receive the verification e-mail within about 3 minutes.

Note: If you do not receive the verification e-mail within about 3 minutes, click Resend E-mail in the Photo Mail window, and then wait up to 15 minutes.

  7. Enter the verification code you receive in your e-mail into the Sender Verification text box, and then click OK.

After verifying your e-mail address, you can send e-mails through the Adobe E-mail Service.

Limitations
These limitations apply when using the Adobe e-mail server:
  • File size: 2MB for total mail message including any attachments. The Photo Mail (HTML) and Individual Attachment options show approximate file size information in the E-mail dialog box. If the file size is above the limit, you will receive and error message that the file size is too big.
  • You can only send 1 message per minute. If you try to send more than 1 message in a minute an error message will alert you that you need to wait a while.
  • Up to 20 recipients are allowed in a single e-mail.
  • There is no option for recipients of these e-mails to opt out of receiving them.
Troubleshooting
The Adobe E-mail Service may not work as expected for one of the following reasons:
  • The e-mail server may be temporarily down.
  • E-mail from Adobe's e-mail server is filtered into the Spam box in the recipients' account. The verification e-mail which contains the verification code may be filtered automatically into the Spam box.
  • The e-mail may be stopped by the sender's or the recipient's firewall.
  • If intended recipients or senders can receive regular e-mail, but never receive the mails that are sent from Photoshop Elements, it is possible that their ISPs are blocking the Adobe mail.
  • An individual's account was disabled because of misuse.
  • The verification code is invalid. This can occur if you copy it from the e-mail and paste it into the dialog box in Photoshop Elements with additional blank space at the end or cut off a digit.
