Acrobat 9 does not display PDF in browser or PDF files are opened in non-browser window after you upgrade to Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9

Issue

After you install Adobe Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or upgrade to Adobe Reader 9 or Acrobat 9 from an earlier version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader, PDF files are not displayed within the main browser window, even though the preference chosen/deployed is set to "Display PDF in browser".

Reason

If a previous version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader 7 or 8 was previously installed on the system, and the preference to 'Display PDF in browser' was deselected, Acrobat or Adobe Reader 9 might revert to the registry key for the previous version.

Solution

Delete the previous version's registry key.
  1. Choose Start > Run.
  2. Type regedit and click OK.
  3. Delete the following registry key:
    • For Acrobat/Reader 7 delete HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals\bBrowserIntegration
    • For Acrobat/Reader 8 delete HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\Originals\bBrowserIntegration

Disclaimer: The registry contains system-related information that is critical to your computer and applications. Before modifying the registry, be sure to make a backup copy of it. Adobe doesn't provide support for problems that may arise from improperly modifying the registry. Adobe strongly recommends that you have experience editing system files before you modify the registry. For information on the Windows Registry Editor, see the documentation for Windows or contact Microsoft Technical Support.
