End-of-Life Announcement for J2SE 1.4 Made by Sun Microsystems (ColdFusion MX 7.x, JRun 4)
Sun Microsystems, Inc. has announced that J2SE Version 1.4 will reach its End of Service Life as of October 30, 2008. Sun announced that J2SE 1.4 was transitioning into an End of Life period (EOL) as of December, 11 2006.
With the End-of-Life of J2SE 1.4, Adobe will continue to provide support for configurations requiring this version of the J2SE on a best-effort basis. Adobe will also be adding support for Java SE for Business 1.4.2 after the J2SE 1.4 EOL period begins. Adobe recommends that customers concerned about the End-of-Life of J2SE 1.4 do one of the following:
- Upgrade to Java SE for Business 1.4.2. In many cases this upgrade is free. Please see Sun's website for more information.
- ColdFusion users can upgrade to ColdFusion 8, which supports later versions of the J2SE.
- JRun users (not using ColdFusion) can upgrade to later updated versions of JRun which support the later versions of the J2SE.
Note: Servers running ColdFusion MX 6.x with J2SE 1.3.1 or JRun 4 with J2SE 1.3.1 have historically run without problems long after Sun Microsystems had End of Lifed that J2SE version.
