Support boundaries for deployment with Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products

Deutsch | English | Français

What's covered

The Adobe Creative Suite 4 products allow for deployment through a silent installation mechanism. The installer has been designed to run silently and not display any message to the end user. We have developed this mechanism for our volume license customers but retail customers can use silent installation information to install without a user interface.

Deployment options

The Adobe Creative Suite 4 products can be deployed using technology that runs an installer silently. Although the installer has not be specific tested with all technologies it should work with any deployment technology that can run our installer silently. Please refer to the section, "Supported deployment methods" for additional information on tested deployment technologies. To simplify the packaging process we have also developed a Creative Suite Deployment Tool (CSDT.) The CSDT will enable you to create the necessary files for silently installing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 without completing all of the steps in the CS4 Deployment Guide. For additional information please refer to, "Support boundaries for the Creative Suite Deployment Tool for Adobe Creative Suite 4 products" TechNote kb405452.

We do not currently offer a MSI or PKG version of the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer. You can repackage our software but we can only offer the coverage outlined in the section, "Unsupported deployment methods".

Supported deployment methods

The Adobe Creative Suite 4 products have been tested with:

  • SMS (System Management Server) 2003 and SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) 2007
  • ARD (Apple Remote Desktop)
  • Running the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer silently from a command line on the client machine.
Note: The installation sources files can be stored remotely or locally for the deployment environment.

Adobe technical support can provide configuration information and installation troubleshooting for these issues. We have developed a CS4 Deployment Guide for information on the supported configuration for the deployment methods above.

Unsupported deployment methods

Adobe Technical Support can provide limited support for unsupported deployment methods. Unsupported deployment methods include:

  • Repackaging the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer.
  • Using a deployment software other than the software outlined in the section, "Support deployment methods".
  • Using an image based deployment software.
Important: We have identified a problem that will affect all installations using an image based deployment technology. Our installers store serial numbers and licensing information in similar files. Using this deployment technology overwrites shared files based on the last package installed. All previous software installation will cease to launch successfully. For additional information on workarounds for this issue please refer to, "Imaging technology limitations when deploying the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products" (TechNote kb405453).
  • Using a custom script to deploy our software to client machines.

Adobe Technical Support can:

  • Supply all documentation on performing a supported silent installation.
  • Verify the original silent installation is setup and functioning as expected.
  • Verify the silent installation can be successfully run on a client machine using a command line installation.
  • Verify the files and command line are correct for a silent installation.
  • Troubleshooting error messages generated by the installer when running a support deployment method.

Adobe Technical Support can not:

  • Troubleshoot a repackaged Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer.
Important: Although Adobe Technical Support can not troubleshoot repackaged installers we can ensure the product team is aware of problems you have encountered during the process and relay any suggestions we have on improving the your workflow.
  • Assist in developing a script to deploy our software.
  • Troubleshot a script to deploy our software.
  • Troubleshoot error message generated by a custom installer.
