Issue

When you attempt a repair installation of Photoshop Elements 7 on Windows, you see the following message:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

If you cancel the dialog brings, you see anan "Error 1706" message.

Reason

This error occurs when the original installation was done locally, (i.e. not from the CD, but after copying the installer to a location on the computer), and the installer was deleted from the Recycle Bin.

Solution

Do one of the following:
  • If you installed Photoshop Elements 7 from a location on the computer, keep the installer there and don't delete it. You will then be able to perform a repair installation without a problem.
  • If you installed Photoshop Elements 7 from a location on the computer, and the installer was deleted afterwards, you must copy the installer back to the location from where you deleted it before you can perform a repair installation.

Additional Information

If the installation was performed from a location on the computer, then a repair installation can also only be done locally, not from the CD.
