A: A computer with Windows XP or Vista, or Mac OS 10.4 or later; a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768; 512 MB of RAM; Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on a Windows machine, Safari 3.0.4 or later on a Mac, or Firefox 2 or later on either platform. Q: What photo file formats and sizes can I upload to or download from Photoshop.com?
A: The answer to this question depends on how you're accessing Photoshop.com. From a web browser, you can directly upload JPEG photo files--the most common format used in cameras--up to 10 MB in size and up to 6000 pixels in height or width. Using your installed copy of Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7, you can upload any or all of the file formats supported by those applications, including raw, TIFF and PSD images and AVI video files. You can download copies of any files stored at Photoshop.com, regardless of format, using your web browser, Photoshop Elements 7, or Photoshop Elements 7.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: How big can the photos be that I use with Photoshop.com?
A: Again, it depends how you're using Photoshop.com. The basic online editor will only work on JPEG images up to about 2880x2880 pixels (about 8 megapixels). If the photo you upload with a web browser is larger, then it will be made smaller at Photoshop.com when you edit it. Likewise, if you upload large raw, TIFF, or PSD photos from Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7, the online editor will first convert the photo to a smaller JPEG, and then edit that file.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Does that mean my original files are gone because they've been converted and shrunk?
A: No. Never. Whether you upload JPEGs, TIFFs, PSDs or raw photos, the online editor only makes nondestructive changes to your photos. When you edit non-JPEG photos, the online editor creates a separate file copy in the JPEG format and that is the file that is edited. The originals are left intact. If you edit JPEG photos, and save the changes on Photoshop.com, you can simply place your mouse over the bottom of the photo to show the Photo Options menu, click it, and choose Revert to undo the changes. If you're using Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7, a JPEG you edit will be stored as part of a Version Set in the Organizer--again, separate and distinct from the original. See the documentation for Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 for more on Version Sets and the Organizer.

Q: How many files at a time can I upload? And what about uploads to other services?
A: The number depends on your operating system and browser. However, the general guidance is that you shouldn't try to upload more than 100 files at a time from the Photoshop.com "Upload Photos" dialog. The same goes for third party services. You shouldn't try to transfer more than 100 files at a time.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Can I delete copies of my photos from my hard drive after uploading them, and trust Adobe to keep these online?
A: As a best-practices recommendation, the safest thing to do is to have your own backup copy of anything that is important to you. That means all of the important data on your computer, including photos. See the Terms link in Photoshop.com to find out what you're entitled to from Adobe.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: What rights do I have to my photos?
A: Please refer to the Terms of Use link for the specific legal terms and conditions for using Photoshop.com. You'll find it at the bottom right corner of the Photoshop.com display, along with a link to the Privacy Policy for the service.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: How can I edit photos that I already have on sites like Facebook, Flickr, Photobucket or Picasa?
A: In Photoshop.com, click My Photos. In the left column below the links for your Library and Albums, you will find Other Sites. Use the Login links to log into Facebook, Flickr, Photosbucket or Picasa. Once you set this up, the photos you have at those services will automatically appear in Photoshop.com. You can then use Photoshop.com services with them as easily as any other photo.

Q: What about MySpace?
A: At present, there is no direct path available between Photoshop.com and MySpace.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Does Photoshop.com work with my video files as well as photos?
A: You can upload video files from the Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7 organizer to Photoshop.com, and you can download video files anywhere using a web browser, and view them on any video player that handles the file type. In the online organizer at Photoshop.com, video files are designated with a filmstrip icon. At present, video editing is not one of the features of Photoshop.com, but we anticipate that it will be one of the features requested by our customers for future additions. Stay tuned!

Editing

Q: How do I edit photos? Can I edit photos on my machine?
A: First, click the Upload button to upload your photos to Photoshop.com, or set up options in Photoshop.com Mobile, Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7 to upload your photos. Once they're at Photoshop.com, you can select them in My Photos, and get busy. Run your mouse over the photo to reveal the Photo Options menu at the bottom right. Double-click any photo to open it in the online editor (which will be familiar to Photoshop Express Beta members). Photoshop.com is a hosted application so you can use it from any Internet connected computer. When you're done editing, you can use the Photo Options menu to download the photo to your desktop..

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: What are the photo editing features of Photoshop Express?
A: Here are some specifics:

  1. Crop & Rotate--Turn it, straighten it, crop out the background.
  2. Resize--Change the size to fit web or mobile display, to email it to friends and family, or just because you want it bigger or smaller.
  3. Auto Correct--Automatic, one-click, optimal lighting and contrast adjustment.
  4. Exposure--Change the brightness of the photo.
  5. Red-Eye Removal--Removes red eyes caused by some camera flashes.
  6. Touchup--Remove scratches and other imperfections.
  7. Saturation--Ramp up the colors to blinding brightness, dampen them down to black and white, or anywhere in between.
  8. White Balance--Ever notice how people look different inside an office with the ugly fluorescent tubes, as opposed to outside on a bright sunny day? Adjust the white balance and you change the type of lighting in the photo.
  9. Highlight--The brightest parts of a photo are the highlights. This control lets you brighten or darken just the brightest part of the photo, without affecting the darker parts (we call those the shadows).
  10. Fill Light--If you take a shot facing into the sun, your subject can end up too dark due to the camera's automatic exposure adjustment. Fill Light brightens the dark area without overbrightening the background.
  11. Sharpen--It's like putting in your contacts. Suddenly everything comes more into focus.
  12. Soft Focus--It's like taking your contacts out. Soft Focus creates a subtle blur for artistic effect.
  13. Hue--This one changes all the colors in a photo at once.
  14. Black & White--Control how the colors are converted when you change a photo to black and white.
  15. Tint--Imagine instead of black and white, you want red and white, or pale brown and white for that old Western look.
  16. Sketch--Makes any photo look like you drew it yourself.
  17. Distort--Stretch, twist, bulge specific areas of your photos.

Q: What are some tips for making my photos better?

Q: How to I rotate and crop the photo?
A: Click Crop & Rotate. Then drag the little boxes at the corners of the grid--everything inside the grid will be in the final photo. To straighten you can drag outside the corner boxes when the cursor changes to the curvy line with arrows, or just drag the Straighten control at the top of the window. The two buttons left of that will rotate the photo left or right.

Q: How can I highlight a single color in a photo?
A: Click Pop Color. Then click something in the photo that has the color you want to pop. You can then change that color by clicking the preview strip right above the photo. If you want to turn all the other colors in the photo into black-and-white, uncheck the "Show All Colors" option.

Sharing

Q: Are photos that I uploaded to Photoshop.com automatically shared?
A: Nope. You decide when and how to show them off.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: How do I share photos with friends from Photoshop.com?
A: If you want to share a set of photos at once, privately, go to My Photos and create an album containing them. Then click the Share Album button at the bottom to email a link to the album. If you just want to share a single photo, select it and click the E-mail Photo button. For something more public, start in either My Photos or My Gallery. In the left column next to each album is a padlock icon. Click the padlock and select Available to All to make the album open to the public.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Can I save a slideshow?
A: Photoshop.com doesn't save slideshows as individual files. Instead, you save the slideshow settings as part of the album. Those settings will be remembered for that album, so that it appears the same way the next time the album is watched as a slideshow.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: How do I set up My Gallery?
A: My Gallery has a number of options you can control, beyond simply deciding what to show off to the world. Start out in My Photos, and select the photo you want to use for your profile--the photo that says "you." Mouse over the bottom of the photo to reveal the Photo Options menu, click it, and select Use as Profile Image. Next, find a photo you want to use as the background for your entire My Gallery page, open its Photo Options menu, and choose Use as Gallery Background. With that done, click My Gallery. Your profile is at the top left--Click where it says "Insert your tagline," and then type in a personal tagline. Next, click where it says "Insert your description," and type in a longer description of your gallery. Of course, all of this is optional--your gallery will work perfectly well with the default setup if you don't want to customize it.

Q: Can I share just some photos and not others from Photoshop.com?
A: Absolutely. You control which albums are shared and which are not. Just click the padlock icon next to any album in My Photos or My Gallery to change the settings at any time. You can also add photos to or remove photos from an album at any time, whether you're sharing the album publicly or not.

A: Click the padlock icon next to the album name and select Private. That's all it takes.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Can I share photos in other formats than JPEG?
A: If you've uploaded non-JPEG photos such as raw, TIFF or PSD through Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7, you can include them in a shared album. If you turn on the option to allow the people you share with to download copies, then they can download the photos in their original size and format, if they choose. Of course, you can download any file from your Photoshop.com account at any time, using a web browser.

Friends List

Q: What is the Friends List feature and why would I use it?
A: The Friends List feature makes it easy to know when your Photoshop.com Friends share new pictures. For example, suppose you regularly share photos with your cousin Elvis, but you're tired of sending email back and forth every time there are new photos to see. Friends List lets you add cousin Elvis as a Friend, so notifications will be automatically sent to both of you whenever you or Elvis posts new pictures.
Friends Lists can have multiple members, so keeping a lot of people in the loop is a snap. You have options for turning on or off email notifications, but regular notifications will always appear on Photoshop.com. To check out the Friends List Feature, click Browse at the top of the screen and look in the left panel to see Friends Lists. There, you can check Notifications, view your Friends' Galleries, and see your favorite Albums.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Are Photoshop.com Friends the same as my Facebook friends? Or my neighborhood friends?
A: They can be, but they don't have to be. There's no one-step way to bring in your online friends, but you can certainly invite them personally to your Gallery, where they can begin to follow your updates. A better way to think of Photoshop.com Friends is as people whose photos interest youâ”they could be talented artists you've come across while Browsing public galleries, people who've said they're interested in photos you've shared, or, yes, your cousin Elvis.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Can every Album I create be viewed by everyone on my Friends List?
A: Only Public Albums will result in notification messages to your friends; private albums will not be shared or viewable on your Friends List.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: How do Notifications work?
A: Notifications are quick updates that appear in your Notification screen on Photoshop.com. You can also choose to receive emails with each new notification (Email notifications are "ON" by default, however you can stop email messages by changing your settings in Preferences on Photoshop.com).
Notifications are automatically triggered whenever you or your friend creates a new public album or adds photos to a public album. Changes made to private albums do NOT generate notifications to your friends.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: Do all my friends have to be Photoshop.com members to be part of my Friends List?
A: Eventually, yes, you would want your friends to join Photoshop.com, so they could also share their pictures with you. But you can invite anyone to be on your Friends List. If they are not already a member, they will receive instructions on signing up to join the party.

to top - to Photoshop.com Forums - to Photoshop.com

Q: What if someone somebody sends me a friend request, but I don't want to be his or her friend?
A: It was best said in the 80's: Just say no. Being a Photoshop.com Friend makes it easy to keep up with the person on the other end of your friendship. If you don't want to know what they're posting, or you don't want them to know what you're posting, don't approve their Friend Request.
