Can't click Accept in Software License Agreement dialog box in Adobe Reader or Acrobat (8-9 on Windows)

Issue

When you install an Adobe Acrobat 8 or an Acrobat 9 application (for example, Adobe Reader, Acrobat Pro Extended, Acrobat Pro, Acrobat Standard, or Acrobat Professional), you are unable to click Accept or Deny in the Software License Agreement (sometimes called the End User License Agreement or EULA) dialog box.

Details
The following symptoms can occur:
  • The Accept or Deny buttons might not be visible.
  • If you move the mouse pointer over the Accept or Deny button, then it may change from an arrow to an I-beam as if you are going to edit the text.
  • If you click anywhere else in the Software License Agreement dialog box, the Accept and Deny options disappear.

You also might have Large Fonts or Extra Large Fonts selected as the font size in the display settings for the computer, or you might have the video driver display DPI set to something other than the defaults.

Solution

Try one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Press Enter.

Press the Enter key to accept the Software License Agreement.

Solution 2: Change the screen resolution to 1,024x768.

On Windows Vista:

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize.
  2. Choose Display Settings
  3. If the screen resolution is less than 1024 by 768 pixels, then drag the Screen Resolution slider to the right until the screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Properties.
  2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.

  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
Solution 3: Set video driver display DPI and Font size to Normal/Default.

Set the Font Size setting and DPI settings in the Display Properties dialog box to Normal/Default before you install the Adobe application.

On Windows Vista:

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalise
  2. Open the DPI Scaling Control Panel by choosing Adjust font size (DPI)
  3. Select Default Scale (96 DPI)
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK

On Windows XP or 2003:

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Properties.
  2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Appearance tab.
  3. Choose Normal from the Font Size menu.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
  6. Click Advanced.
  7. Choose Normal Size (96 DPI) from the DPI Setting menu.
  8. Click Apply, and then click OK.
