Error "1603. A fatal error occurred during installation" | Install | CS4 products | WindowsProducts affected
Issue
When you install Adobe Creative Suite 4 or point products, you receive the following error message:
"Error 1603. A fatal error occurred during installation".
Solution
Do one or more of the following:
Solution 1: Remove Google Desktop.
- Uninstall Google Desktop.
- On Windows Vista
- Choose Start > Control Panel, and double-click Programs And Features.
- Select Google Desktop, and click Uninstall. Follow the onscreen instructions to remove the product.
- Restart the computer.
- On Windows XP
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel, and double-click Add Or Remove Programs.
- Select Google Desktop, and click Remove. Follow the onscreen instructions to remove the application.
- Restart the computer.
- On Windows Vista
- Install the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or point products.
Solution 2: Install the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or point products into a single-byte folder.
- Launch the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to the Installation Location dialog box.
- Click Browse and select a folder without double-byte characters.
Note: Double-byte or high ASCII characters are any characters that require more than 1 byte to describe. Most glyph-based languages, such as Japanese, use double-byte characters to display the language. In the example above,
is a double-byte phrase meaning New Folder.
Additional information
Google Desktop has been known to occasionally cause a conflict with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 installer. Furthermore, the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer cannot install into a double-byte folder on a single-byte Windows operating system.
