Why does my Adobe Creative Suite software make calls to the *.2O7.net subnet at startup?

Reason

Calls are made to the *.2O7.net subnet when Adobe software or a web browser fetches content from Adobe.com. Because the Welcome Screen in your Adobe software is designed to fetch up-to-date content from the Adobe website and then display this content within the Welcome Screen, your software makes calls to this address at startup.

If you would prefer that the software not make these calls, simply disable the Welcome Screen in your Adobe software by selecting the Don't Show This Again option in the lower left corner of the Welcome Screen.

When Adobe Creative Suite 3 software fetches content from Adobe.com, whether through the Welcome Screen or an embedded web browser, a tracking callback is made to our web analytics partner Omniture. These tracking calls specify only the time the call was made, the Adobe software that made the call, and the version of the software making the call. Site visits are tracked in this manner to provide anonymous data that helps Adobe improve site functionality and provide content that better meets customer needs.

We understand that some of the particular hostnames being contacted on the *.2O7.net subnet (such as 192.168.112.2O7.net) are non-standard in their use of leading digits in the name, and that these hostnames can be mistaken for local network addresses. Adobe is working with Omniture to assign more standard hostnames that do not give rise to such confusion.

Note: No personally identifiable information is ever submitted when fetching content from Adobe.com or when tracking calls are made after the fetched content is received.

Note: All Adobe.com content may use tracking calls, and fetching any Adobe.com content in a web browser may cause the browser to make those calls. In addition, since some Creative Suite 3 software contains embedded web browsers, any user action which requests Adobe.com content from such an embedded browser will cause the host software to make the tracking calls.

For example, clicking Bridge Home in Adobe Bridge CS3 will cause its embedded browser to visit an Adobe.com page and initiate this tracking. If you would like to prevent this from happening, turn off Bridge Home by opening Adobe Bridge CS3, choosing Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Bridge CS3 > Preferences (Mac OS), and deselecting Bridge Home under Favorite Items.
