HomeSite compatibility on Windows VistaProducts affected

HomeSite 5.5 was released more than three years before Windows Vista became publicly available and does not officially support this new operating system. However, we are not currently aware of any major issues that would adversely affect customer use of HomeSite on Windows Vista. For more information on Adobe product support in general for Vista, see How Adobe Products Support Windows Vista.

While HomeSite 5.5 should work well for most users using the default Vista settings, some users have reported that they need to run HomeSite in Windows XP Compatibility mode and as an administrator.

Running HomeSite in Windows XP Compatibility mode and as an administrator

  1. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Macromedia\HomeSite 5\ folder.
If you're using HomeSite+, navigate to the HomeSite+ folder.
  2. Right-click on the Homesite5.exe file and select Properties.
If you're using HomeSite+, right-click on the HomeSite+.exe file and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
  4. Click "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
  5. Click the checkbox next to "Run this program as an administrator".
  6. Click OK and exit. Try running HomeSite again.

Additional Information

If you are having trouble running HomeSite as a Vista user with User privileges (a non-admin user), then please refer to "Windows 2000/NT users get an error when trying to launch HomeSite or Studio 4.5.1" (TechNote tn_17616). The registry keys and file locations mentioned in this TechNote are the same in Vista.
