Printer and scanner problems in Photoshop CS3 on Intel-based Macintosh

Issue

When you try to scan or print from Adobe Photoshop CS3 on an Intel-based Macintosh, the scanner or printer is not available.

Reason

Older scanner and printer drivers written for Macintosh PowerPC processors do not work natively on newer, Intel-based Macintosh systems.

Solution

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Update device drivers to a native Intel-based Macintosh version, if available.

Install the most recent driver for the printer to which you print or scanner from which you scan. Contact the manufacturer for the latest version of the driver for the printer or scanner.

Solution 2: Run Photoshop CS3 in Rosetta mode.

  1. Navigate to the Photoshop application file in Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3.
  2. Hold down the Control key and click the file; from the menu, select Get Info.
  3. Under General, turn on the option "Open using Rosetta."
