Remote Edge servers may not work when upgrading to Acrobat Connect Professional

Issue

In Acrobat Connect Professional, the way a remote Adobe Connect Edge Server (Edge) communicates with the Acrobat Connect Professional Origin server (Origin) has changed.

When a remote Acrobat Connect Edge Server is present in an environment, the remote Edge now can communicate directly with the core process that runs the meeting(s). In previous releases, the remote Edge would have communicated with a local Edge on the Origin. By bypassing the local Edge, we were able to reduce latency, which increases performance.

If port 8506 is not open between the remote Edge and the Origin, all requests coming in to the remote Edge will fail.

Reason

By default, Adobe Connect Edge Servers 6 need port 8506 open between the Acrobat Connect Edge Server and the Acrobat Connect Professional server. If you choose not to open port 8506, then you can add a parameter in the Acrobat Connect Professional server custom.ini to have it work as it did in 5.x. Keep in mind that this will increase latency.

Solution

You can choose from one of the foloowing two options in order to resolve this problem:

  • Make sure port 8506 is opened between the remote Adobe Connect Edge Server and the Acrobat Connect Professional Origin server.
  • Or, add the following to the Origin's custom.ini. Make sure to restart all services on the Origin server in order for this parameter to take effect.

    FMS_LOCAL_EDGE_WITH_PROXY=yes
