Error "Invalid value for parameter..." when you select an InDesign CS3 file using Create PDF From File in Acrobat
Issue
When you select File > Create PDF From File in Adobe Acrobat and then choose an InDesign CS3 file, you receive the following error message:
"Invalid value for parameter 'using' of event 'exportfile'. Expected PDFExportPreset, but received <name of joboption>." After you click OK, you receive the error "Acrobat could not open <filename> because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged."
Detail
In Acrobat, you are using one of the following job options for InDesign files:
- Oversized Pages
- PDF/A-1b:2005(CMYK)
- PDF/A-1b:2005(RGB)
- Standard
Reason
Although available in the user interface, some job options for InDesign files cannot be interpreted by InDesign CS3, thus resulting in an error.
Solution
Do one of the following solutions:
Solution 1: In Acrobat, choose a different job option for InDesign files.
- Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Acrobat > Preferences (Mac OS).
- In the Preferences dialog, select the Convert to PDF panel.
- From the list of products, choose InDesign and click Edit Settings.
- From the Adobe PDF Settings drop-down list, choose a different job option, for example High Quality Print.
- Click OK.
- Click OK to exit the Preferences dialog.
Solution 2: Export to PDF from within InDesign.
- From within your InDesign document, choose File > Export.
- In the Save As dialog, name your file and then choose Adobe PDF from the format menu.
- Click Save.
Note: You can include an InDesign document in a PDF package by choosing File > Create PDF From Multiple Files and choosing the PDF file you created from your InDesign file.
