Enabling both RTMP and RTMPS (SSL) with Adobe Connect Professional

Issue

Corporate proxy servers and firewalls often block traffic on port 1935. Therefore, a client may not be able to use Acrobat Connect Professional through port 1935.

Reason

Acrobat Connect Professional needs to be configured to use SSL (port 443) when port 1935 is blocked by the client's corporate firewall.

Solution

In general, port 443 is open on any corporate firewall to allow secure traffic to the Internet where SSL is required. Adobe Connect Enterprise Server can be configured to support both 443 and 1935 on demand. If the clients block port 1935, Connect Professional automatically switch to port 443 seamlessly. If the clients can connect to port 1935, it will remain on port 1935.

  1. Enable SSL on Adobe Connect Enterprise Server by following all of the steps in the "Secure the meeting server only" section of http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Connect/6.0/InstallationConfiguration/ssl.pdf.
  2. Test to make sure that SSL is working when you enter Acrobat Connect Professional. You must see the SSL lock in the upper right hand corner of the Acrobat Connect Professional room in order to confirm rtmps is working for meetings.
  3. In the Secure the meeting server only section, step 4 of the SSL.pdf, add the following highlighted text:

    <HostPort name="meetingserver" ctl_channel=":19350">:-443,1935</HostPort>
  4. In the Secure the meeting server only section, step 13 of the SSL.pdf, add the following highlighted text:

    RTMP_SEQUENCE=rtmp://external-host:1935/?rtmp://localhost:8506/, rtmps://external-host:443/?rtmp://localhost:8506/
  5. Restart Adobe Connect Enterprise Server:
    • Choose Start > All Programs > Adobe Connect Enterprise Server > Stop Adobe Connect Enterprise Server.
    • Choose Start > All Programs > Adobe Connect Enterprise Server > Stop Adobe Connect Meeting Server.
    • Choose Start > All Programs > Adobe Connect Enterprise Server > Start Adobe Connect Meeting Server.
    • Choose Start > All Programs > Adobe Connect Enterprise Server > Start Adobe Connect Enterprise Server.

These are the only additional steps you need to perform to allow both a secure and non-secure connection for Connect Professional.
