Error: "...the file system of the OS volume is not supported." when installing (Creative Suite 3 on OS X)

Issue

When you install Adobe Creative Suite 3 on Mac OS X, you see the error message, "This software cannot be installed because the file system of the OS volume is not supported."

Reason

You are trying to install to a volume that uses a case sensitive file system, such as UFS or HSFX file.

Solution

Install Adobe Creative Suite 3 on a volume with a supported file system.

Additional Information

You cannot install Adobe Creative Suite 3 to a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system, such as HSFX or UFS. Adobe Creative Suite 3 installation is supported on volumes using HFSJ or HFS+ file systems.
