How to update Breeze/Connect for changes in Daylight Saving Time 2007

Issue

Breeze and Connect are Java applications that depend on the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for their time information. Because of this, the new US Daylight Saving Time changes for 2007 will affect Breeze and Connect Enterprise servers.

Reason

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 will result in a change to the beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time (DST). These changes will take effect starting in March, 2007. Daylight Saving Time will now begin at 2am local time on the second Sunday in March (March 11th) and end at 2am on the first Sunday in November (Nov. 4th).

Solution

To ensure that time calculations will be correct in 2007, use one of the following solutions to update the Breeze or Connect enterprise server.

Solution 1: Breeze 4.x and 5.x
  1. Apply the appropriate DST update to the Windows operating system on the Breeze 4.x/5.x server and Breeze 4.x/5.x - MS SQL Server 2000 database server. Please see the Microsoft website for more information on how to update Microsoft products affected by 2007 daylight saving time changes.
  2. Download the JDK US DST Timezone Update Tool - 1.0.1 from the Sun Microsystems website.
  3. Unzip the contents of tzupdater-1_0_1.zip file to a directory on your desktop.
  4. Locate the tzupdater.jar file that was unzipped in step 2.
  5. Move the tzupdater.jar file to this directory, {breeze}\appserv\win32\jre\bin
  6. Open a Command Prompt (Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt).
  7. From the C:\> prompt, type the following command: cd breeze\appserv\win32\jre\bin

Note: You will need to adjust your command accordingly if your Breeze installation path is different.

You should now be located at: {breeze}\appserv\win32\jre\bin>
  8. Enter this command: java -jar tzupdater.jar -u -v
  9. The update will complete with this verification message: "Time zone data update is complete."

Watch the demonstration below for the steps to update Breeze for changes in Daylight Saving Time.

Solution 2: Connect 6.0
  1. Apply the appropriate DST update to the Windows operating system on the Connect 6 server and Connect 6 - MS SQL Server 2000 or 2005 database server. Please see the Microsoft website for more information on how to update Microsoft products affected by 2007 daylight saving time changes.
  2. Upgrade to Connect 6.0 Service Pack 1, which contains the updated JVM. Connect 6.0 SP1 is scheduled for release mid-February and will be posted on the Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional Support Center

    OR

  3. If you are unable to upgrade to Connect 6.0 Service Pack 1, you will need to update the Connect 6.0 JVM by following Solution 1 as detailed above for Breeze 4.x and 5.x.
