RoboHelp 6 crashes without error the first time you start it (Windows Vista)
Issue
RoboHelp 6 HTML or RoboHelp 6 for Microsoft Word splash screen appears and then disappears. RoboHelp silently crashes.
Reason
RoboHelp was not designed to be installed on Windows Vista. Please see the "RoboHelp 6 and Vista compatibility FAQ" (kb400353) for details. The Activation method included in Windows Vista is not compatible with User Account Control.
Solution
Disclaimer: This solution is provided for your information only. Adobe Technical Support will not be able to assist customers who are running RoboHelp 6 on Windows Vista.
Although RoboHelp was not designed to be installed on Windows Vista, you can get it to launch by disabling User Account Control. You will also need to manually register RoboHelp components.
How to disable User Account Control:
- Choose Start > Control Panel
- Click on Classic View on the left if it is not yet already selected.
- Double Click on User Accounts.
- Click on Turn User Account Control on or off.
- Remove the check mark from Use User Account Control.
- Press the OK button.
- Restart the computer.
How to register the RoboHelp components:
Disclaimer: This procedure involves editing the registry. Adobe doesn't provide support for editing the registry, which contains critical system and application information. Make sure to back up the registry or create a system restore point before modifying it. For more information about the registry, refer to Windows Help.
- Hold down the windows key and press R. This will bring up the run line.
- Key in CMD and press OK. This will bring up the command prompt.
- Type in the following commands and press enter after each line:
cd\windows\system32
regsvr32 /s HHCTRL.OCX
regsvr32 /s ITIRCL.DLL
regsvr32 /s ITSS.DLL
regsvr32 /s MSXML3.DLL - Close the command window.
- Hold down the windows key and press R. This will bring up the run line.
- Key in regedit and press OK.
- Browse to HKLM\Software\Adobe\RoboHTML\6.00\MontereyFrame.
- Double click on the DWORD RegisteredOCXs.
- Change the Value Data to 1.
- Press OK.
- Close the Registry Editor.
