Adobe Flash 8 Video Encoder cannot be installed or used on a machine that had Adobe Flash 8 Basic

Issue

The Video Encoder in Adobe Flash 8 Professional cannot be activated on a machine that has previously had Adobe Flash 8 Basic installed on it.

Reason

The Adobe Flash 8 Video Encoder uses the same serial number as Adobe Flash 8 Professional (or Studio 8 if you have the Studio bundle). Because of this, you cannot activate the Video Encoder on a machine that has already been activated with Adobe Flash 8 Basic. The activation will fail.

Solution

In order to run Adobe Flash 8 Video Encoder on that machine, enter the serial number for Adobe Flash 8 Professional. This will accomplish two things:

  1. Allow the activation of the Video 8 Encoder
  2. Upgrade the Adobe Flash 8 Basic install on that machine to Adobe Flash 8 Professional. You will not be able to run Adobe Flash 8 Basic on that machine after this activation.
