Dealing with duplicate site definitions when upgrading to Dreamweaver 8

Issue

Some users have experienced site duplication in Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004. When installing the Dreamweaver 8 upgrade, these duplicate site definitions will migrate into Dreamweaver 8.

Reason

Duplicate site definitions in prior releases have been reported in some situations. Since all versions of Dreamweaver migrate site definitions when upgrading from one version to the next, migration of these duplicate site definitions will occur.

Solution

Macromedia recommends users install the Dreamweaver 8 upgrade, then review defined sites and remove any duplicates. Keep in mind that there is no risk to site files when removing site definitions in Dreamweaver. Duplicate site definitions should be removed in Dreamweaver 8 to ensure no further site management issues arise.

Removing duplicate site definitions in older versions prior to upgrading is not recommended. In some cases duplication in the older version occurs when quitting the application, so the duplicates may still appear after installing Dreamweaver 8.

To date, there have not been reports of site duplication occurring in Dreamweaver 8.
