Title

The Organizer crashes with a c0000005 error when you create a SlideshowProducts affected

Issue

When you select the Slideshow option in the Creation Setup dialog box, the Organizer closes with the error message, "Adobe Photoshop Elements has encountered a problem and needs to close. Error code: c0000005."

Reason

You have one or more of the following applications installed:

  • Intervideo WinDVD
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  • Pinnacle Studio 9

Solution

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Remove Intervideo WinDVD.
  1. Choose Start >Control Panel and the double-click the Add Or Remove Programs icon.
  2. Select the entry for Intervideo WinDVD and click Remove.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the application.
Solution 2: Remove Internet Explorer 7.
  1. Choose Start >Control Panel and the double-click the Add Or Remove Programs icon.
  2. Select the entry for Window Internet Explorer 7 and click Remove.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the application.
Solution 3: Delete the Pinnacle audio codec registry key.

  1. Choose Start >Run.
  2. Type regedit in the Open text box and click OK.
  3. In the Registry Editor dialog box, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\ and select the {37CE4089-FF16-47BE-83CC-91D283D06675} key, which appears as a folder.
  4. Select File >Export.
  5. In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range, name the file (for example, pinnacleaduio.reg), and click Save to save the file to the Desktop.
  6. In the right panel of the Registry Editor, select the LowerFilters line, and then choose Edit >Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box.
  7. Choose Edit >Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box.
  8. Close the Registry Editor.
  9. Restart Windows.

Additional Information

Conflicts between the slideshow creation feature of Photoshop Elements and Intervideo WinDVD, Internet Explorer 7, or the Pinnacle DVcodec cause this error. Removing these applications from the system allows the slideshow feature to function correctly.
