Image displays incorrectly after you scale it in Photoshop (InDesign CS2)

Issue

After you enlarge the canvas size of an image in Adobe Photoshop, the linked image does not enlarge or scale correctly in Adobe InDesign CS2.

Details

The edited file with the new canvas size fills the content frame rather than the graphic frame of the placed image. Thus the image looks smaller rather than larger.

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Replace the image.

1. Open the image file in Photoshop (do not use Edit Original from the Links palette).

2. Scale and save the image.

3. In InDesign, select the image in the document.

4. Choose File > Place.

5. Make sure "Replace selected Item in the Place dialog box" is selected, and click Open.

Solution 2: Use the option to fill the frame proportionately.

If the graphic frame equals the desired enlarged image size, choose Object > Fitting > Fill Frame Proportionately.

Background information

The behavior works as designed.
