TechNote

Clip Notes file contains video but no audio (Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0)

Issue

When you create a Windows Media format Clip Note in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, the file contains video but no audio.

Detail

You did not set the export module selected in the Adobe Media Encoder to Windows Media.

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Download and install the updated Clip Notes export settings.

Updated Clip Notes export presets that resolve this issue are available for download.

To install the new presets:

1. Download the updated ClipNotes presets from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3192 .

2. Unzip the downloaded preset files.

3. Place the unzipped preset files in the Clip Notes folder located at Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\MediaIO\Presets\ClipNotes.

Solution 2: Change the export module in the Adobe Media Encoder to Windows Media.

1. Select a clip in the Project panel or an open Sequence.

2. Select File > Export > Adobe Media Encoder.

3. Select Windows Media as the format in the Adobe Media Encoder Export Settings.

4. Click Cancel to close the Adobe Media Encoder. You may now sucessfully export Windows Media files from Clip Notes with audio and video.

Background information

Clip Notes uses the Adobe Media Encoder engine for the encoding process. When the Adobe Media Encoder does the audio encoding for Clip Notes it attempts to use the encoding format listed in the Adobe Media Encoder dialog instead of from the selected Clip Note encoding preset. If the encoder format listed in the Adobe Media Encoder is a format other than Windows Media, the audio encoding fails.
