-- File system error

-- I/O error

-- Boot error

-- System crash or slowdown

-- Illegal Name error when you run Disk Utility

Solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Update Mac OS X to version 10.4.7.

For information on updating to Mac OS X 10.4.7, visit the Apple support website.

Solution 2: Delete the Legal or Legal.localized folder, and then run Disk Utility.

Delete either the Legal or Legal.localized folder in the following directories:

-- Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2/

-- Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS2/

-- Applications/Adobe Creative Suite 2/

-- [Username]/Documents/Adobe Help Center/

Note: Run Disk Utility to repair any file system problems that might have already occurred.

To run Disk Utility:

1. Insert your Mac OS system disk and restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. After the computer restarts, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (If prompted, select your language.)

3. Choose the First Aid tab.

4. Choose your Mac OS X disk on the left, this is the disk that has the operating system on it.

5. Click Repair Disk, which will find and repair Illegal Names.

For more information on using Disk Utility and other Mac OS utilities to repair your file system, see the Apple support site at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 .

Background information

Mac OS X causes illegal file names to be reported when it reads some of the font data used in the Vietnamese End User License Agreements, which are installed in the Legal or Legal.localized folders. This problem causes severe file system and hard disk corruption if the files are not deleted or if the file system is not repaired.

Apple fixed this problem in Mac OS X 10.4.7.
