PageMaker 7.x crashes after you install Adobe Creative Suite 2 or Illustrator CS2 (Windows)
Issue
After you install Adobe Creative Suite 2 or Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe PageMaker 7.x crashes when you open existing PageMaker files and returns one of the following error messages:
-- "Error: Adobe PageMaker has encountered a problem and needs to close."
-- "The instruction at ##### referenced memory at location ##### and the memory could not be read."
Solution: Delete the Dialog9.fon and Ruler.fon files.
1. Go to Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2\Support Files\Contents\Windows\System.
2. Delete the following files that appear in the folder:
-- Dialog9.fon
-- Ruler.fon
3. Restart the computer.
Background information
The Dialog9.fon and Ruler.fon files are installed by Adobe Illustrator CS2 and cause a conflict with Adobe PageMaker 7.x. Illustrator CS2 does not require these files, so you can safely remove them without affecting Illustrator CS2.
