Message "Cannot find or create the font..." when you open a PDF (Acrobat 7.0.5, Acrobat 3D on Windows)
Issue
When you open a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 7.0.5, Acrobat returns the message, "Cannot find or create the font '[font name].' Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When you click OK, Acrobat returns the message, "The Extended Language Support Package is required to display this page properly. Click OK to install this document. All open PDF files will be closed and Acrobat will restart. You will be given the option to save changes." Acrobat continues to return this message regardless of the key you press.
Solution: Repair Acrobat from the Add Or Remove Programs control panel.
1. Right-click the task bar and choose Task Manager.
2. In the Windows Task Manager dialog box, select the Applications tab.
3. Select Adobe Acrobat 7.0.5 and click End Task.
4. Choose Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box, and then click OK to open the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box.
5. Select Adobe Acrobat 7.0.5.
6. Click Change/Remove.
7. In the Setup dialog box, click Next, select Repair, and then click Next again.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair.
Background information
The Acrobat 7.0.5 update replaces some fonts that are required to view PDF files and for extended language support (Hebrew, Arabic, Thai and Vietnamese). If an updated font is missing when a file that requires the font is opened, you receive error messages.
Occasionally, certain fonts are locked by the acrobat.exe process and are not replaced during the update. If you quit Acrobat and then repair the installation, the missing fonts are replaced with the correct version of the fonts.
