Disable Adobe Photo Downloader in Photoshop Elements 4.0
By default, Adobe Photo Downloader starts each time you connect an external image device to your PC. You can prevent this from occurring by disabling Adobe Photo Downloader in the Photoshop Elements preferences. You can easily re-enable the Photo Downloader at any time.
To disable the Adobe Photo Downloader:
1. In the Photoshop Elements 4.0 Organizer, choose Edit > Preferences > Camera Or Card Reader.
2. Deselect "Use Adobe Photo Downloader to get photos from Camera or Reader."
Note: If you also have Photoshop Elements 3.0 installed on your computer, you must also disable Photo Downloader in Photoshop Elements 3.0 to prevent it from starting each time you connect an external device. To do so, open the Photoshop Elements 3.0 Organizer and follow steps 1 and 2 above.
To enable the Adobe Photo Downloader:
1. In the Photoshop Elements 4.0 Organizer, choose Edit > Preferences > Camera Or Card Reader.
2. Select "Use Adobe Photo Downloader to get photos from Camera or Reader."
Background information
The Adobe Photo Downloader process started by Photoshop Elements 4.0 is called "APDproxy.exe," and the Photoshop Elements 3.0 process is called "PhotoshopElementsDeviceConnect.exe."
The Photoshop Elements 3.0 Photo Downloader does not display a system tray icon, whereas Photoshop Elements 4.0 does add a camera icon with a green arrow to the Windows system tray.
