Warning: "System restore is turned off..." when you install Photoshop Elements (4.0-5.0 on Windows)
Issue
When you install Photoshop Elements 4.0 or 5.0 you see the warning message, "System Restore is turned off. If you continue Setup, you will be unable to use System Restore to restore the version of Windows Media Player that was included with the Windows operating system that your computer is running. It is recommended that you click Cancel, turn on System Restore, and then upgrade to Windows Media Player 10. For more information about System Restore, see Help and Support. Do you want to continue?"
Details
You turned off System Restore.
Solution: Enable System Restore and reinstall Photoshop Elements.
To enable System Restore:
1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Uncheck Turn off System Restore.
4. Click OK.
Background information
The message is from the Windows Media Format 9.5 installer. If you download the Windows Media Format 9.5 installer from the Microsoft website and run it stand-alone on a system with System Restore turned off, you see the same warning message.
