Error: "...entered a serial number that is not valid...." when installing Illustrator CS2 upgrade (Mac OS X)
Issue
When you install the Adobe Illustrator CS2 upgrade on Mac OS X you receive the error, "You have entered a serial number that is not valid for this upgrade installer," after you enter the Adobe Illustrator 10 serial number for verification.
Solutions
Do one or more of the following:
Solution 1: Install Illustrator 10, and then install Illustrator CS2.
Install Illustrator 10 on the machine and then install Illustrator CS2.
Solution 2 Call Adobe Customer Service.
If you do not have the Illustrator 10 installation media, then you will need to call Adobe Customer Service. Make sure you turn your computer on and have the serial numbers ready for both Illustrator 10 and Illustrator CS2, and then contact Adobe Customer Service.

Background information
Illustrator CS2 incorrectly does not recognize the Illustrator 10 serial number as a valid serial number when you enter it for verification during the upgrade process.
