PDF files don't appear in the PDFPreview tab (Adobe Designer 6.0, Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.x on Windows)

Issue

When you click the Body Pages tab or the PDF Preview tab in Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.x or Adobe Designer 6.0, one of the following things occur:

-- You see a page that says "Action Canceled".

-- The page is blank.

-- You receive an error message such as "The memory could not be 'read'."

-- Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader open separately to display the PDF file.

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Install a compatible version of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

You must use Adobe Reader 6.02 or later or Acrobat 6.02 or later to preview PDF files created in Adobe Designer 6.0 and Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.x.

The free Acrobat updates are available from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads. An upgrade, however, may solve a wider range of problems. You can purchase upgrades from Adobe Authorized Resellers and from Adobe directly:

-- To purchase an upgrade from Adobe, visit the Adobe Store at http://store.adobe.com/store/, click Acrobat Family and choose Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Professional.

-- To locate an authorized reseller, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/store/customerregistration/other_places.jhtml .

-- To download the free Adobe Reader 7.0, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html .

Solution 2: Detect and repair Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

If you have multiple versions of either Acrobat or Adobe Reader installed on your system, remove previous versions before running Detect And Repair on the most current installed version.

To repair Acrobat or Adobe Reader:

1. Open Acrobat.

2. Choose Help > Detect And Repair.

Background information

The PDF Preview tab uses the same plug-in to create previews of PDF files as your web browser does. Versions of Acrobat earlier than 6.02 do not support PDF files made in Adobe Designer 6.0 or Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.x. Also, if plug-ins from previous versions of Acrobat or Adobe Reader are still on the system, this could cause conflicts when PDF files are previewed. When you remove previous versions and repair Acrobat, you make certain that the correct plug-in is used.
