Error "Reading Text Global Resources" and freeze when you start Photoshop (CS2, CS on Windows and Mac OS)
Issue
When you start Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS, Photoshop freezes when the startup screen displays the message "Reading Text Global Resources."
Solutions:
Do one of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Delete the New Doc Sizes file.
Delete the New Doc Sizes file (New Doc Sizes.psp) and then start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a New Doc Sizes.psp file during startup.
To delete the New Doc Sizes file:
-- On Windows:
1. Make sure that Windows Explorer shows hidden files and extensions:
a. In Windows Explorer, choose Tools > Folder Options.
b. Click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box.
c. In Advanced Settings, select Show Hidden Files And Folders.
d. Deselect Hide Extensions For Known File Types.
e. Click OK.
2. In Windows Explorer, locate the New Doc Sizes.psp file in the Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop/9.0/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings folder (Photoshop CS2) or the Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop/8.0/Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder (Photoshop CS).
3. Right-click the New Doc Sizes.psp file and choose Delete.
4. Start Photoshop. If the problem still occurs, a system issue may be causing the problem. To troubleshoot the system, see Related Documents below.
-- On Mac OS:
1. Drag the New Doc Sizes.psp file from the Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings folder (Photoshop CS2) or the Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder (Photoshop CS) to the Trash.
2. Choose Finder > Empty Trash.
3. Start Photoshop. If the problem still occurs, a system issue may be causing the problem. To troubleshoot the system, see Related Documents below.
Solution 2: Re-create Photoshop preferences.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
If this doesn't solve the problem, manually delete the Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings or the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder, located in the Documents and Settings/ [user profile]/ Application Data/ Adobe/Photoshop/9.0 or 8.0 folder (Windows) or in the Users/ [user profile]/ Library/ Preferences folder.
Background information
The New Doc Sizes file stores custom document sizes that you create by choosing File > New Document in Photoshop. Photoshop requires the New Doc Sizes file to start and may freeze if the file is damaged or inaccessible. You can damage the New Doc Sizes file by editing it in a text editor. System-related problems can also cause the file to become damaged or inaccessible.
