Windows Journal Viewer message when you start Acrobat (6.0-7.0 or 3D on Windows 2000, XP)
Issue
When you start Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer attempts to start and returns the message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Details
When you click Cancel, Windows Journal Viewer returns the following messages:
-- "An installation package for the product Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer cannot be found."
-- "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi' in the box below."
Solutions
Do one of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Remove Windows Journal Viewer.
If you don't need the features of the Windows Journal Viewer, you can safely remove it.
To remove Windows Journal Viewer:
1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Change or Remove Programs.
3. Click Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer, and then click Remove.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.
5. If prompted, restart the computer.
Solution 2: Repair WindowsJournal Viewer.
Download Windows Journal Viewer, and then repair it:
1. Download Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5 from the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/downloads . (Search for Journal Viewer.)
2. Run the installer (Setup.exe), select Repair Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer, and then click Finish.
Background information
Windows Journal Viewer is an application that enables you to view files that were created in Windows Journal on a Tablet PC. Acrobat, and other programs, share components with Windows Journal Viewer. If Windows registry entries for Windows Journal Viewer are corrupt, the Windows Installer repair process for Windows Journal Viewer tries to repair the corrupted registry entries when you try to start Acrobat.
