Create a PostScript file for submission to Create Adobe PDF Online (Mac OS 8.x and 9.x)

Create a PostScript file

If the file you want to convert to PDF using Create Adobe PDF Online is in an unsupported format--or if the file has a custom page size, contains linked graphics, or unsupported fonts--you can print the file to PostScript, and then submit the PostScript file to Create Adobe PDF Online. Before performing these tasks, you need to create a virtual printer by installing the Acrobat Distiller PPD file and the AdobePS printer driver.

Download and install the Acrobat Distiller PPD file

To create a virtual printer,you first need to download and install the Acrobat Distiller PPD file from the Adobe Web site.

To download and install the Acrobat Distiller PPD file:

1. Go to the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html

2. Click Macintosh in the PostScript Printer Drivers section.

3. Scroll to the PPD Files section, and click PPD Files: Adobe.

4. Click Download to begin the downloading process.

Note:Your browser version and configuration determine where downloaded files are stored on your hard disk and whether downloaded files are decompressed automatically. See the browser's documentation for additional information.

5. Double-click the Adobe.sit file to unstuff it. A folder called "Adobe" is created on your desktop.

6. Open the Adobe folder, and select Acrobat Distiller.

7. Copy the Acrobat Distiller file to the System folder/Extensions/Printer Descriptions folder.

Download and install the AdobePS printer driver

Download and install the AdobePS printer driver to complete the process of creating a virtual printer.

To download and install the Adobe PS printer driver:

1. Go to the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/.

2. Click Macintosh in the PostScript Printer Drivers section.

3. In the Printer Drivers section, select the version and language of the printer driver you wish to download:

-- For Mac OS 8.0, select version 8.6.

--For Mac OS 8.1-8.5, select version 8.7.

--For Mac OS 8.6-9.2.2, select version 8.8.

Note: To determine what version of Mac OS you have, deselect the active window and choose About This Computer from the Apple menu.

4. Click Download to begin the downloading process.

Note:Your browser version and configuration determine where downloaded files are stored on your hard disk and whether downloaded files are decompressed automatically. See the browser's documentation for additional information.

5. Quit all open applications.

6. Double-click the [language version].sea icon, and then click Continue.

7. Click Save to unstuff the installer.

8. Open the [language version] folder on the desktop, and double-click the AdobePS Installer.

9. Click Install.

10. If prompted to do so, restart your computer.

11. From the Apple menu, choose Chooser.

12. In the Chooser, select AdobePS, and then close the window.

Create a PostScript file

Now that you've created a virtual printer, you can create a PostScript file, which you can then submit to Create Adobe PDF Online for conversion to PDF.

To create a PostScript file:

1. Open the document you want to convert to PDF.

2. Choose File > Page Setup.

3.Choose Virtual Printer from the Printer menu.

4. Choose Virtual Printer from the Page Attributes menu.

5. Click Select PPD and choose Acrobat Distiller from the list of Printer Descriptions.

Note:You may need to navigate to the System folder/Extensions/Printer Descriptions folder.

6. Click Select. If desired, make page size and orientation selections in the Page Attributes area.

7. Click OK.

8. Choose File > Print.

9. From the Printer menu, choose Virtual Printer.

10. Click Save.

11. In the Save dialog box, enter a name for the file.

12. Choose a location for the saved file, and then click Save.
