What's covered

Configure the Adobe PDF Printer to use the Adobe PDF PPD

Create the PDF document

This document covers how to convert a QuarkXPress 6.x document to Adobe PDF.

To convert the document, Adobe recommends you configure the Adobe PDF printer to use the Adobe PDF PPD (PostScript Printer Description), and then do one of the following tasks:

-- Generate a PostScript file from QuarkXPress using the Adobe PDF PPD and then distill the file in Adobe Acrobat Distiller.

-- Create a PDF document using the Adobe PDF printer from within QuarkXPress.

Note: Adobe doesn't provide technical support for the Layout As PDF command in QuarkXPress.

Configure the Adobe PDF Printer to use the Adobe PDF PPD

Acrobat installs the Adobe PDF PPD (ADPDF6.PPD or ADBPDF7.PPD) to [Macintosh HD]/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj. The PPD provides Acrobat Distiller options (for example, supported page sizes) to other applications.

To configure the Adobe PDF Printer to use the Adobe PDF PPD:

1. In QuarkXPress, choose File > Print.

2. Click the Setup tab.

3. Choose Adobe PDF 6.0 or Adobe PDF 7.0 from the Printer Description dropdown menu.

Note: If Adobe PDF doesn't appear in the menu, click Cancel to close the Print dialog box, choose Utilities > PPD Manager, click Update and OK, and then repeat steps 1-3.

4. Click Printer.

5. From the Printer dropdown menu, choose Adobe PDF 6.0 or Adobe PDF 7.0.

6. Click Print. If you aren't ready to print, click Cancel to retain the selections.

Create the PDF document

After you have configured the Adobe PDF Printer, do one of the following procedures to create the PDF document.

Disclaimer: These guidelines contain information about options in QuarkXPress. Adobe does not provide support for QuarkXPress, but provides this information as a courtesy. For detailed information about QuarkXPress, refer to QuarkXPress Help or contact Quark.
