Required permissions for Photoshop (7.0.x and CS on Windows 2000 and XP)

To install Photoshop, you must be logged in to Windows with Administrator rights. To use scratch disk files, ICC profiles, preferences files, and application files, you must have read and write access to the folders listed in the table below.

Folder Details
The root of any volume specified as a scratch disk location, unless the volume is assigned to the TEMP variable on the Environment tab of the System Control Panel. Photoshop's scratch disk files, saved at the root level, allow background processing of open images.
- Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\Color- Windows\System32\Color (Photoshop 7.x only)- Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles- Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles\Recommended- Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Proofing- Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Settings These folders contain color profiles for color management in Photoshop.
- Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS-Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0 These folders contain application files, plug-in files, and savable presets.
- Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings- Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings These folders contain preferences settings.
Program Files\Common Files\Adobe This folder contains files that provide support for the Type tool, online features, color management, and workgroup files.
The system Temp folder Photoshop uses the system Temp folder for printing and installation purposes. Files can be written to the Windows\Temp folder, the local folder in the Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp folder, or to a folder specified as the Windows TEMP variable on the Environment tab of the System Control Panel.
Windows folder Photoshop uses several system files in the Windows folder for scanning, including the Twain.dll, Twain_32.dll, Twunk_16.exe and Twunk_32.exe files.
Folders you access when saving or opening files Photoshop needs read and write access to folders in which you save files.
